Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) for the development and integration of a new launcher system for Gripen C/D and Gripen E. The order, worth around 400 million Swedish kronor (just under 40 million euros), was placed in the first quarter.

The contract covers the development and integration of a new launcher system for air-to-air missiles and countermeasure pods for Gripen C/D and Gripen E. The contract also includes options for subsequent series orders of launcher systems.

The carrier systems can be integrated into existing variants of weapon carriers and can carry all Gripen air-to-air missiles.

“The integration of the new carrier system is an important component in ensuring the high availability of the Gripen system. After delivery, maintenance of the carrier systems will be carried out in Sweden, which will further contribute to the secure supply of defense equipment to our customers,” says Åsa Schöllin, Head of Gripen Sustainment.

The launcher is mounted on the aircraft’s weapon mounts and has a sophisticated connection between the aircraft and the weapons mounted on the launcher.
