The Polish subsidiary of Lockheed MartinPZL Mielec, recently handed over the first four S-70M Black Hawks to Romania. The four helicopters are part of an order placed in October 2021, with two more Black Hawks to follow by the end of December and the remaining six aircraft to be delivered by the end of 2026.
The Romanian Ministry of the Interior has procured the Black Hawks as part of the EU VISION 2020 project for the country’s SMURD (Serviciul Mobil de Urgență Reanimare și Descarcerare) rescue service. The rescue service intends to use the helicopters for search and rescue (SAR) operations both on land and at sea. However, the Black Hawks will also be used for MedEvac missions and firefighting operations. To improve the success of these missions, the cabins have been equipped with medical equipment from Deltamed. https://militaeraktuell.at/offiziersgesellschaft-wird-bundesheer-partner/ Janusz Zakrętcki, the President and CEO of PZL Mielec, said at the handover: “The Black Hawk helicopters delivered to Romania will ensure increased responsiveness in emergency situations. Designed to exacting military standards, the S-70 Black Hawk is a multi-role platform ideal for carrying out difficult missions over long distances and at high altitudes.”
