Rheinmetall and a Ukrainian partner company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a joint venture to manufacture artillery ammunition in Ukraine in the future. The signing took place in the presence of Alexander Kamyshin, the Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries, on the fringes of the Munich Security Conference.

The “Ukrainian Center of Excellence for Ammunition” is set to produce a six-digit number of 155 millimetre caliber bullets per year, including the corresponding propellants. The JV partners intend to build a new production facility for this purpose and operate it jointly in future. Rheinmetall will hold 51 percent of the shares in the joint venture, while the Ukrainian partner will hold 49 percent. https://militaeraktuell.at/gdels-steyr-225-neue-pandur-fuer-das-bundesheer/ It was only on February 12 that the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for a new plant was held in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony, in the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholzwhich – in addition to explosives and components for rocket artillery – will also produce artillery ammunition from 2025.

“The demand for artillery ammunition is enormous in many countries – first and foremost in Ukraine, of course. Our intention to set up another joint venture there underlines how serious Rheinmetall is about supporting the country.

Papperger continues: “We want to be an effective partner for Ukraine in rebuilding the country’s once strong defense industry and ensuring the autonomy of Ukrainian capacities. We are already the country’s most important defense industry partner. In total, we currently have projects worth several billion euros in progress with Ukraine, and the number is growing almost daily.” Back in October 2023, Rheinmetall AG and the Ukrainian state-owned company Ukrainian Defense Industry JSC (UDI, formerly Ukroboronprom) founded their first joint venture in Kiev – Rheinmetall Ukrainian Defense Industry LLC. In a first step, emergency vehicles will be serviced and repaired, and armored vehicles will also be manufactured in Ukraine at a later date.
