The Spanish government has Rheinmetall to supply a total of 94,200 155 millimeter calibre bullets. The framework agreement concluded for this purpose is worth around 208 million euros. The artillery shells are to be delivered to the Spanish army between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025. The contract also includes a two-year extension option.

Spain is already using the 155-millimeter ammunition and this is already the second framework agreement. The ER02A1 high-explosive (HE) projectiles have a maximum range of 30 kilometers in the boat-tail variant (BT) and almost 40 kilometers in the base-bleed variant (BB). The latter has a special device at the base of the projectile. This heats the air generated by the projectile itself in its trajectory, thus reducing resistance and increasing the range. https://militaeraktuell.at/diehl-defence-northrop-grumman-schliessen-mou/ Rheinmetall was only awarded a contract in December 2023 to order to support the Ukraine won. As part of this contract, a five-digit number of 155-millimeter ammunition will be delivered in 2025. Around 40,000 projectiles from an earlier order are to be delivered this year. However, various NATO countries also want to replenish their largely empty ammunition stocks. In mid-February, in the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant was held in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony. ground-breaking ceremony for a new plantwhich, in addition to explosives and components for rocket artillery, will primarily produce artillery ammunition. On February 18, Rheinmetall and a Ukrainian partner company then signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will also enable the production of artillery ammunition in Ukraine in the future.
