The Danish Ministry of Defense’s Material and Procurement Agency (FMI), in cooperation with the Defense Command (FKO), has selected the Skyranger turret from the German company Rheinmetall for the army’s new air defense system. When selecting the type, the latest findings from the Ukraine war were taken into account.

The tower’s 30-millimeter machine gun is a so-called high-velocity gun which, together with the missile system, can combat aircraft, helicopters and drones. The analysis work that will lead to the selection of the anti-aircraft missiles to be mounted on the turret is still ongoing, and the exact design of the Danish turrets has not yet been determined. What is certain, however, is that the Danish Skyranger turrets will be mounted on Piranha 5 armored personnel carriers already in service with the Danish Army. The entire air defense system must also include search radars, fire control centers and communication systems. The Danish company Terma is responsible for integrating all these elements into an integrated air defense system and delivering it to the army. https://militaeraktuell.at/der-ukraine-krieg-als-erster-war-of-drones/ The head of FMI, Lieutenant General Kim Jesper Jørgensen, says in connection with the selection of Skyranger: “I am pleased that with the selection of Skyranger we are acquiring the most modern air defense system for the army. As other countries, including Germany, are also looking to acquire Skyranger, there are good opportunities for cooperation in the areas of training, ammunition, spare parts and continuous upgrades.”
