The first two British Boxer prototypes from BAE Systems and Rheinmetall have arrived in the UK ahead of joint army and industry trials. The Boxer is the British Army’s new modern armored fighting vehicle.

The arrival of the vehicles will allow troops from the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers to trial the Boxer, marking an important milestone in the program. The vehicles are expected to form a core part of the Army’s new Armored Brigade Combat Teams where, along with Ajax and Challenger 3, they will form the cornerstone of the Army’s ability to fight wars on land.

The arrival of the vehicles enables the troops of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers to test the Boxer.

To meet the multiple requirements of the British Army, the Boxer has a modular design – the same vehicle base can be quickly reconfigured to perform different tasks on the battlefield, from transporting troops over different terrain to treating seriously injured soldiers on the way to hospital with the ambulance variant. Lieutenant General Simon Hamilton, Director General of Land Forces at Defence Equipment and Support, said: “The delivery of these prototypes to the Army for testing is not only positive news for the future of the British Army, but also underlines our commitment to investing in the UK defense industry and supply chains, which means we can retain key engineering and manufacturing skills in the UK.” https://militaeraktuell.at/spatenstich-fuer-erweiterung-des-fliegerhorsts-brumowski/ While the first 117 vehicles will be built on German production lines, the remaining 506 vehicles will be manufactured at the UK plants in Telford and Stockport. Production in the UK will be carried out in Telford by the joint venture company Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) and in Stockport by KNDS, with subcontracts for the supply chain across the UK, including in Glasgow with Thales.
