The German technology group Rheinmetall and the US company Anduril Industries announced a few weeks ago at Eurosatory in Paris (-> The Austrians at Eurosatory 2024) signed a letter of intent. As part of this cooperation, Rheinmetall and Anduril will jointly develop and produce new multi-layered air defense systems against small unmanned aerial vehicles (Counter small Unmanned Aerial System – C-sUAS). The cooperation is primarily aimed at the European market.

These C-sUAS systems will combine Rheinmetall’s Skymaster command and control system and high-performance guns with the Lattice AI software platform and open, modular and scalable hardware components such as the Andurils Sentry Tower, Wisp sensors and Anvil, the autonomous interceptor drone. Overall, the cooperation agreement aims to bring together the capabilities of these two companies. Oliver Dürr, CEO of Rheinmetall Air Defence AG, said: “This cooperation will result in the most innovative C-sUAS system, combining Rheinmetall’s strong military competencies and Anduril’s high development speed. I am absolutely confident that this combination will meet the future needs of our customers and that we will bring the right solution to the market at the right time.” https://militaeraktuell.at/politikwissenschaftler-heinz-gaertner-interview/ Greg Kausner, Senior Vice President of Global Defence at Anduril, said: “Air defense systems require a layered approach that is flexible, adaptable and rapidly deployable. The partnership between Anduril and Rheinmetall will provide our customers with an innovative, software-defined and hardware-enabled C-sUAS system that will enable them to stay one step ahead of the drone threat.” This cooperation should enable both companies to develop and implement a systematic approach that covers a broad spectrum of sensors and effectors. The spectrum could range from various hard-kill effectors and non-lethal effectors to gun missiles and modern active and passive detection sensors.
