From March 13 to 31, future Austrian Armed Forces operational pilots will be practicing military flight procedures with up to seven helicopters of different types and four fixed-wing aircraft. They will mainly fly in Upper and Lower Austria. Civilian airfields – with the exception of the one in Ottenschlag – will be spared.

“Helicopter cooperation is an extremely complex undertaking and requires intensive preparation and therefore regular practice. This ‘Helicopter Tactics Course’ enables the air forces to master challenging procedures in a wide variety of threat scenarios and the necessary procedures in missions. The current security situation in Europe in particular shows how important it is to train military procedures and thus be prepared for emergencies,” says Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. When and where exactly will the flights take place?
During the “Helicopter Tactics Course” from March 13 to 31, S-70 Black Hawk transport helicopters, Agusta Bell 212s and fixed-wing aircraft such as PC-6s and PC-7s will fly between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. on weekdays, except Saturdays. There is no flying at night. The aim is to teach prospective operational pilots tactical flying at different altitudes – including low-level flight – and at different speeds. Take-offs and landings take place at the Brumowski airbase in Langenlebarn, the Vogler airbase in Hörsching and the Hinterstoisser airbase in Zeltweg. This training also serves as preparation for the foreign exercise “Hot Blade 2023” in Portugal. https://militaeraktuell.at/sanierung-der-zehner-kaserne-spatenstich-in-ried/ In Upper Austria, flights are mainly carried out in the districts of Freistadt, Eferding, Linz Land, Rohrbach, Urfahr Umgebung, Grieskirchen, Perg, Steyr Land, Wels Land and Gmunden, and in Lower Austria mainly in the districts of Waidhofen/Thaya, Retz, Horn, St. Pölten Stadt und Land, Amstetten, Zwettl, Gmünd, Melk, Krems, Tulln Umgebung, Hollabrunn, Mistelbach, Korneuburg and Mödling. The use of firecracker, marker, flare and signal ammunition is planned. In some cases, orange signal smoke is used to mark helipads outside barracks.
