Upper Austria’s military music welcomed in the New Year yesterday evening. In the Spinnerei, Music Master Vice-Lieutenant Gerhard Dopler conducted for the first time and set the pace for the military musicians. Kapellmeister Gernot Haidegger is currently taking a break due to injury.
Dopler greeted the audience in the Kulturpark with classical marches and waltzes in the first half of the concert and then let the energy carry over to the audience in the second half with modern pieces and vocals, so that everyone was able to start 2023 in high spirits. The audience left the concert in a celebratory mood, of course not without having heard the Radetzky March as one of the encores.
The concert was impressive: two dancing couples from Siebenbürger Traun, the sisters Carina and Anja Hofmann and their dance partners, gallantly floated through the rows of visitors to the sound of the waltz. Ines Verena Haas sang “Mein Herr Marquis” from Adele and “If I were a rich man” from Anatevka by recruit and military musician Ruben Höglinger, while Barbara Doss from the Upper Austrian State Music School conducted the wind band orchestra in “Va pensiero” from Verdi’s Nabucco. And drawings by caricaturist Rupert Hörbst were shown live on the screen to accompany the musical pieces.
