The hunting command of the Armed Forces receives a new commander: On Thursday, in the presence of Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner, the command will be handed over from Brigadier Philipp Ségur-Cabanac to Colonel of the General Staff Arthur Bennett.

Ségur-Cabanac took command of the special unit four years ago in April and had previously held a number of other management positions. For example, at Jäger Battalion 25 in Klagenfurt, at the Hunting Command in Wiener Neustadt and as Head of Unit in Policy Planning at the Ministry of Defense. After serving as a planning officer with the MVB from 2010 to 2014, he returned to the Fighter Command. From 2016 to 2019, he completed the 21st General Staff Course, after which he served in various BMLV departments. Just last year, the Hunting Command celebrated its 60th birthday (-> Forward to the Jagdkommando roots). In 1963, the order was given to conduct the first basic hunting commando course and the hunting commando was set up as a company for special operations. Today, the Jagdkommando is the most operationally experienced unit in the Austrian Armed Forces. The aim of the newly launched training at the time was to continue the fight in enemy-occupied territory with regular forces, the so-called Jagdkommando.

“Numquam retro – never go back”. The Jagdkommando’s motto refers to the Payer-Weyprecht expedition and the discovery of Franz-Josef-Land in 1874. Above-average stamina, determination, comradeship and a sense of duty were crucial to the success of this expedition.
