The start of the new year saw a significant change at the Army Performance Sports Center 08 in Rif: Vice-Lieutenant Christian Rabenberger took over as commander on 1 January after his predecessor, Vice-Lieutenant Erwin Geiger, who had held the position since 2003, retired at the end of 2023.

Rabenberger, a 57-year-old from Salzburg, began his career in the army in 1987 with the Landwehrstammregiment 82 in Elsbethen. After his basic training as a medic, he went on to become a medical sergeant, ambulance sergeant and training sergeant. He has been serving at the Army Performance Sports Center since 2016. As the new commander, Rabenberger has a clear vision for the Army Performance Sports Center. He attaches great importance to ensuring that the competitive athletes feel comfortable and supported at the base. His priorities are reflected in his statement: “It was and will always be important to me personally that my competitive athletes feel comfortable.” https://militaeraktuell.at/suchoi-bekommt-der-iran-doch-su-35-kampfjets/ The military commander of Salzburg, Brigadier Peter Schinnerl, conveyed his congratulations to the new commander.
