The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has awarded COMLOG, a joint venture between Raytheon and MBDA, its first contract under the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI). The NSPA contract, with a total value of €5.1 billion, covers several user nations, including Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain. It covers a total of up to 1,000 Patriot GEM-T missiles if all options are exercised.
To enable delivery, COMLOG will expand its production capacities for GEM-T missiles in Europe. The GEM-T missile, which was further developed as the Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) for tactical ballistic missile defense, is a core component of the field-proven Patriot air defense system. Patriot is used by eight European countries and Ukraine to defend against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and enemy drones and aircraft.
Stacy A. Cummings, NSPA General Manager said: “The contract demonstrates NSPA’s ability to enable the alliance to deliver effective and cost-efficient multinational solutions to participating nations while strengthening European industrial capabilities. Through close Euro-Atlantic cooperation between alliance partners and industry, the NSPA has been able to consolidate requirements in the award of this complex contract. The customer nations benefit from economies of scale, reduce their logistical efforts and receive adequate solutions within a proven legal framework.” https://militaeraktuell.at/neue-investitionen-in-die-ab212-helis-geplant/ The new production capacities for Patriot GEM-T in Europe will increase security of supply and help replenish Patriot missile stocks. Finally, the contract strengthens cooperation between the NATO partners in the spirit of the European Sky Shield.
