Major order for Hirtenberger Defence: The Dutch defense procurement agency DMO has concluded an agreement with the company for the delivery of new 81 mm mortars, ammunition and the provision of logistical support over a period of ten years.
As Hirtenberger announced, the company will deliver a total of 122 bipod mortars with a corresponding 81 mm ammunition contingent to the Dutch army in a first tranche. In addition to explosive and illuminating cartridges (IR), the ammunition will also include illuminating cartridges (visible) and smoke cartridges (red phosphorus).
“We are delighted to be equipping and supporting the Dutch armed forces with the new system,” said Hirtenberger CEO Carsten Barth in an initial reaction. “The Dutch armed forces are a long-standing customer that already uses our 60 mm system. Now we are equipping the Dutch armed forces with the latest mortar technology.”
The Dutch Ministry of Defense acquired 155 M6 C-640 Mk1 command mortars from Hirtenberger back in 2015, which were released for use by the armed forces in 2019 after several delays (Military News reported).
