Since 2002, the Armed Forces has had the function of command sergeant. This officer acts as an interface between the commander and the NCO corps, advises the commander on NCO matters, accompanies and supports the commander in the supervision of duties – in particular training, training methodology and leadership behavior – and is involved in the planning and implementation of the training, further education and training of the cadre. There was a change of personnel in this position at the Theresian Military Academy at the end of November.

Vice-Lieutenant Friedrich Hiebler retired, Vice-Lieutenant Michael Steiner succeeds him as the first command sergeant of the military academy. Vice-Lieutenant Steiner was officially entrusted with the task at a ceremony in the castle courtyard. As an outward sign of his responsible function, the academy commander presented him with the “Command Sergeant” badge – a silver laurel wreath for the rank. https://militaeraktuell.at/enforce-tac-haelt-ammo-symposium-ab/ The retiring Vice-Lieutenant Friedrich Hiebler worked in Unit 3 of the staff department as a training planning and militia officer. In comparison to other units, the post of command sergeant is not to be seen as an independent job, but as an additional task to the actual activity. Major General Pronhagl thanked Vice-Lieutenant Hiebler for the work he has done, his commitment and the loyalty he has shown. “We wish the outgoing command sergeant, Vice Lieutenant Friedrich Hiebler, all the best for his retirement and the new command sergeant, Vice Lieutenant Michael Steiner, all the best for his new task!” the military academy said in a statement.
