On November 21, Major General Olaf Rohde took over command of the Special Training Command (ST-C) of the European Union Military Assistance Mission Ukraine (EUMAM UA) from Lieutenant General Andreas Marlow. Lieutenant General Marlow has headed the ST-C, based in Strausberg, since its establishment in November 2022 in addition to his role as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army and Commander of the Basic Military Organization.
The EUMAM UA mission aims to train and educate Ukrainian armed forces in order to support them in their defensive campaign against Russia (-> Current news from the war in Ukraine). The multinational Special Training Command in Strausberg coordinates and conducts all training of Ukrainian armed forces taking place in Germany, regardless of the training nation. The Combined Arms Training Command in Zagan, Poland, is responsible for training in EU countries outside Germany. https://militaeraktuell.at/interkontinentalrakete-russland-staerke-zeigen/ Germany provides support with training contributions in areas such as military leadership, command post training up to brigade level, combat training up to company level, training on weapons systems and equipment including tactical deployment, maintenance, repair and logistics, medical training, NBC and mine defence. All training is geared towards the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces, as the focus is on combat readiness and endurance. Major General Olaf Rohde, an experienced man, is now taking over command of the training center. He joined the Bundeswehr in 1988 with the Armored Reconnaissance Battalion 1 in Braunschweig. German Armed Forces and completed his officer training there. After studying business administration at the University of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and other positions in the Bundeswehr, he took up his first post in the Ministry of Defense in Berlin in 2004 – as a consultant on the planning staff.
This was followed by four more stints in the Ministry of Defense until 2017, each in different positions. From 2011 to 2012, he also served as a senior mentor with the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) of the 2nd Brigade of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kunduz, Afghanistan. Since September of this year, he has been Commander of the Training Command in Leipzig, a role he will continue to perform during his new post at the ST-C.
