For two weeks, operational divers from the pioneer battalions of the German Army and the German German Armed Forces together with specialists from the Hunting Command on the Turracher Höhe trained in various ice diving techniques.

Jumping into the “dark
A tent was erected on the ice surface by the lake where the divers could store their equipment and prepare for the dives. From here, they went to an ice hole that had been cut free and underwent the obligatory safety check by the training staff. The soldiers jumped into the icy water to dive into the “dark” together with their “buddies”.

The divers had various tasks to complete underwater.

Diving exercises in icy water
Various exercises, such as emergency procedures and light pioneering work on a platform, were practised under water. The maximum diving depth was 18 metres and the two-week training course went without incident. https://militaeraktuell.at/militaer-aktuell-im-imperial-war-museum/ The combat swimmers specialize in operations in hostile conditions. They are equipped with dry suits and some with special rebreathers, which enable them to remain under water for long periods with comparatively low oxygen supplies and without any telltale “bubbles”. This is how the soldiers of the fighter squad and the pioneer divers descend into the depths.
