The handover took place as part of an inter-army shooting exercise involving 300 soldiers from seven nations at the Hochfilzen military training area. The exercise took place in alpine terrain with the participation of Germany, Belgium, Poland and the Czech Republic and observers from France and Romania as part of the “Mountain Training Initiative” (MIT). Austria is the “lead nation” for this initiative. In addition to the soldiers, 30 combat vehicles, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and Eurofighters were also involved in the shooting. Fire support with artillery was practiced in cooperation with the air forces of the Austrian Armed Forces in a multinational scenario. The aim of this live-fire exercise was to improve cooperation between different weapon systems. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkgzOUW38M0 At the end of the demonstrations, Minister Tanner handed over the radar equipment to the troops. “With this handover, we are not only making the Armed Forces a bit more modern again, we are also showing that the militia can not only be used for secondary tasks, but can work on an equal footing with the forces present and be deployed. It is our soldiers who are in action for us every day and who deserve the most modern equipment and gear,” said the Minister at the handover. The procurement of these Beagle border area surveillance systems will make a significant contribution to improving sensor technology in the area of border area surveillance.
