Global military spending has once again reached an all-time high: according to a recent report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), spending in 2023 exceeded the previous year’s figures for the ninth time in a row.

In 2023, global military spending rose by 6.8 percent to around 2.28 trillion euros after adjusting for inflation – the largest year-on-year increase since 2009. In comparison, spending in 2022 amounted to 2.04 trillion euros. According to SIPRI, one of the main drivers for the renewed increase is the Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine. https://militaeraktuell.at/oebh-naechster-schritt-zur-embraer-c-390-beschaffung/ The United States remains by far the country with the highest military spending. Russia took third place, followed by India and Saudi Arabia, as in 2022. Germany retained its seventh place among the countries with the highest expenditure – just behind the UK. Overall, global military expenditure corresponded to 2.3 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP).
