After a total of eight months of training with a large number of simulation games, examples from the history of war and a look at current battles, the tactics training of the 22nd General Staff Training now comes to an end.
Tactics in stabilizing operations and in urban environments were the focus of this last training module. A look at the current war in Ukraine shows that the content covered is more relevant than ever and must therefore be given a high priority in training.
Operations with a stabilizing character are based on specific operational factors that place particular demands on tactical planning and leadership. In addition to the tactical basics, it is above all the operational experience of past conflicts that demonstrates the possibilities and impossibilities of operational command and makes them tangible. From the Second World War to operations in Afghanistan and Iraq to current battles – historical examples were therefore analyzed and discussed from a tactical perspective as part of the courses. https://militaeraktuell.at/generalstabsausbildung-multinationale-uebung/ The training was supplemented with specialist lectures by specialists from the Austrian Armed Forces. Colonel Roland Schantl, head of the Hunters Institute at the Army Troop School, was invited to give a lecture on urban operations management. Major Klaus Kuss shared his experience in crowd management with the course, which is also a central component of stabilization.
