Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics have announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement for the production of solid rocket motors. According to the two companies, the aim is to increase “the security and resilience of a vital domestic supply chain”.

The initial work under the collaboration will focus on the production of solid rocket motors for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) and will be carried out at the General Dynamics plant in Camden, USA, from 2025. Following this project, a phased planning approach will be taken for the transition to other products. “Maintaining a robust and diverse solid rocket motor supply chain is critical to realizing our vision of 21st century security,” said Tim Cahill, President of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, in the joint press release. https://militaeraktuell.at/ukraine-rheinmetall-liefert-weitere-panzer/ His counterpart at General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), Firat Gezen, said: “We are proud to leverage our expertise in missile subsystems to deliver new capabilities that will make the domestic supply chain more resilient. The collaboration between GD-OTS and Lockheed Martin underscores our shared commitment to strengthening the defense industrial base and providing critical capabilities to the armed forces.” While GD-OTS plans to expand its operations in Camden and leverage advanced manufacturing to deliver low-cost, production-scale solid rocket motors, Lockheed Martin recently announced the establishment of a solid rocket motor product center to increase security of supply for propulsion systems.
