Embraer announced the sale of up to six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) a few days ago. The contract, which is part of a fleet renewal program to expand the FAU’s operational capabilities, provides for the acquisition of one aircraft and a commitment to purchase five additional units, with deliveries planned from 2025 – including mission equipment, integrated logistics services and a flight simulator.

“With this acquisition, we are taking a major step forward in improving our defense capabilities and responding to the need to control our territorial sovereignty and combat crime in all its forms,” said Uruguayan Minister of National Defense Armando Castaingdebat.

“It should be noted that our country has not acquired any new combat aircraft since 1981.

Uruguay thus joins Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay the sixth South American country to operate the A-29 Super Tucano. Due to its operational flexibility in the South American region, the aircraft is used for various missions, primarily for the control of illegal activities, border surveillance, reconnaissance and training. In total, more than 160 Super Tucanos will soon be in service in a wide range of climatic conditions in South America. “We are honored by the decision of the Uruguayan Air Force, another South American nation, to opt for the A-29 Super Tucano, an aircraft that is a reference in its segment on the international market. With this acquisition, Uruguay will have differentiated capabilities that will contribute significantly to the surveillance of its borders and increase the operational readiness of the FAU,” Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, is convinced. https://militaeraktuell.at/bundesheer-prueft_kauf_m-346fa-leonardo/ The Commander-in-Chief of the Uruguayan Air Force, General Luis H. Its capabilities are further enhanced by advanced HMI avionics systems. The aircraft can be used for close air support or air patrol, but also for border surveillance, air defense and training. In addition, the A-29 has a simple maintenance concept, offering a high level of reliability, availability and structural integrity with low life cycle costs.
