31 soldiers from the Salzburg Pioneer Construction Company dismantled a D-bridge in Radstadt over the past few days. The bridge over the northern Taurach, which was built in February, served as a bypass for construction work on the local infrastructure. The bridge was excavated with the help of a civilian mobile crane.

After dismantling, the bridge was disassembled into its individual parts and loaded onto the army trucks by the Salzburg pioneers and transported back to the disaster control camp.

From February 23 to 25, 42 soldiers from Pioneer Battalion 2 constructed a D-bridge over the northern Taurach under the leadership of the Pioneer Construction Company in Radstadt. The bridge in the “E1v-e, single-deck, reinforced single-lane” design is seven spans (21.33 meters) long. It was built according to the specifications of the Salzburg Bridge Construction Office. In order to optimally prepare the conscripts – both for the construction and now for the dismantling of the bridge – the Salzburg pioneers carried out various training courses, such as on the D-bridge equipment itself, on personal protective equipment against falls and on light pioneer machines. The soldiers also used heavy engineering equipment such as a wheel loader or a telescopic handler to dismantle the bridge. The D-bridge device is an operational bridge device manufactured by Krupp and is primarily used for the rapid replacement of destroyed bridges or bridges with insufficient load-bearing capacity. D-bridges can be used both temporarily and permanently.
