Clawgear Arms redefine AR. As an “Austrian Rifle”, Clawgear is offering the CG15, a new semi-automatic rifle in AR design that is intended to inspire both beginners and professionals. The Ranger magazine from Militär Aktuell has details on the Mil-Specs rifle.
Solid system
As an Austrian AR, the CG15 from Clawgear is said to offer several advantages: The semi-auto in .223 Rem. was developed as a direct gas system. Clawgear has thus chosen the original “Stoner system” for the AR-15, which is characterized by a reduction in moving parts and linearity of the overall system.
As expected, Clawgear also relies on high-quality materials for its AR: the “barrel” is made of cold-forged precision barrels from Lothar Walther with a barrel length of 14.5 inches (nine-inch twist length). The upper and lower receiver are made from drop-forged 7075-T6 aluminum. The hard-anodized handguard in either 9.5 or 13.5 inches has a Picatinny rail on the top and is fitted with M-Lok mounts all round. The focus is therefore on variability and stability.
Mil-specs as standard
The gas block is designed for durability and resistance and – according to Clawgear – should not only satisfy sport shooters, but also police and military special forces. Clawgear’s proximity to the military community can also be felt on the trigger finger: three kilograms have to be overcome with the Mil-Spec Trigger.
The buffer tube and stock of the CG15 are also manufactured to tight mil-spec tolerances and designed for durability and precision. The NATO magazine well holds numerous magazines. Clawgear itself manufactures an inexpensive and handy 10-round magazine and an extended magazine base (compatible with PMAG 10 Gen. 3). Without the magazine, the CG15 weighs just over three kilograms.
The shooter is himself
As is typical for Clawgear, a wide range of optional accessories is available for the CG15: A spare parts kit (“Shit Happens Spare Parts Kit”) and the wear parts kit (“Better Safe Than Sorry Service Parts Kit”) give shooters everything they need for minor breakdowns and major servicing. Spare parts for the lower are also available as a kit.
Additional Clawgear accessories – QD mounts, emergency sights (flip-up) and everything for the muzzle (flash hiders and brakes, compensators) – allow the system to be customized. The CG15 will be available from October 14. Orders can be placed via the online configurator on the Clawgear website or directly from authorized dealers. Clawgear is striving for short delivery times for standard and configured models of the new CG15. The current RRP is 2,098 euros. Clawgear wants to offer “exceptional quality at a fair price”.
