The UNIFIL mission in Lebanon continues unchanged over the Christmas holidays. A C-130 Hercules supply flight brought Christmas trees and presents from relatives for the 184 Austrian soldiers from Austria to Lebanon.
Tradition is also practiced as much as possible in the field. That is why the Christmas trees are decorated by the soldiers in a festive and traditional way. For some, it is a new experience to spend Christmas away from home and their loved ones. Christmas Eve begins with the daily work. At lunchtime, many will contact relatives and acquaintances via the social telephone or social media platforms to wish them a Merry Christmas. In the evening, the Austrian military dean will hold a Christmas mass outdoors. The field kitchen team, which is responsible for the physical well-being of the soldiers, prepares a festive meal for the contingent during this special time. Even though the soldiers spend the Christmas holidays away from family and home, being together conveys a sense of camaraderie.
