The German Armed Forces wants to order two more F126 class frigates from Damen Naval in the first half of 2024. This should be possible thanks to a corresponding option in the contract – four ships have been ordered so far – but only until July 1. For this reason, a 25 million euro bill is to be introduced before the parliamentary summer break.
Construction of the first frigate only began in December of last year with the start of firing at the Peene shipyard in Wolgast. Production is to take place in Kiel, Hamburg and Wolgast. The first ship is scheduled to be handed over in 2028. https://militaeraktuell.at/32566-2/ The Dutch company Damen Naval is acting as general contractor and supplying the ship design, but the ships will be built entirely in Germany. Damen Naval naturally has partners, including Blohm+Voss, a company of the NVL Group, and Thales as subcontractors. Thales supplies and integrates the Tacticos command and weapon deployment system, for example.
