In June 2023, the German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced in response to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine announced the permanent stationing of a brigade in Lithuania. On April 8, the preliminary command with around 20 soldiers deployed to the Baltic States.
Defense Minister Pistorius will officially bid farewell to the soldiers at the government terminal at Berlin Airport. The first members of the Lithuanian brigade will then be welcomed on site by Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas in Vilnius. https://militaeraktuell.at/vorwaerts-zu-den-jagdkommando-wurzeln/ The pre-command is to be increased to a deployment team of around 150 members of the German Armed Forces by the fourth quarter of 2024. German Armed Forces will grow. The army brigade will be reorganized in Lithuania under the name Panzerbrigade 45. Following the official commissioning of the brigade in 2025, the other forces will be deployed starting in 2025, provided the necessary infrastructure is available in Lithuania. The Lithuanian brigade should be operational by the end of 2027. Around 4,800 soldiers and approximately 200 civilian Bundeswehr personnel plus the employees of the in-house companies will then be stationed in Lithuania.
