Almost a year ago, Germany had already announced that it would offer Slovakia Ukraine war Mantis air defense systems from the manufacturer Rheinmetall to secure its eastern border. More than 100 Slovakian soldiers had previously been trained to operate and maintain the systems. In addition, five high-performance air surveillance radars for locating and identifying aircraft at medium and low altitudes with a range of up to 100 kilometers were also handed over to Slovakia.

Mantis is a modern protection system that can protect critical infrastructure, field camps or barracks in 24-hour operation against threats from the air (helicopters, rockets, artillery shells, mortars, drones, etc.). A system consists of a control and fire control center, two sensors and up to eight guns – in this specific case, six weapon stations were handed over. Mantis can be used to protect a 360-degree radius of three kilometers around camps, cities and civilian and military facilities.
