Next drone procurement for the German Armed Forces: Following the procurement of 14 Vector drones from Quantum Systems, which was announced just a few days ago the German army is now receiving the Husar system from Rheinmetall another new medium-range unmanned reconnaissance system.

The President of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) signed a corresponding procurement contract today. The system is highly mobile and can be used independently of the infrastructure. It provides the troops with highly accurate reconnaissance data in almost real time with a flight duration of twelve hours, thus contributing to a comprehensive picture of the situation. The reconnaissance drones have a range of up to 150 kilometers and can be used day and night in almost all climatic conditions. With the planned type certification from the Bundeswehr Aviation Office, safe operation over densely populated areas is also guaranteed. From 2025, the Bundeswehr (-> here you can find the latest Bundeswehr news) will receive a total of twelve production systems and one training system. A system consists of five reconnaissance drones with a maximum take-off weight of 110 kilograms each, two ground control stations, two launch vehicles, two antenna masts, workshop equipment and three transport platforms. https://militaeraktuell.at/kommandouebergabe-bei-der-auslandseinsatzbasis/ Husar stands for “Highly efficient unmanned system for medium-range imaging reconnaissance”. Marketed by the industry under the name Luna NG/B, it is intended to gradually replace the ageing KZO “small aircraft for target detection”. The amendment agreement concluded today secures the continuation of the project with the new contractor Rheinmetall following the insolvency of the original system manufacturer. The contract specifies the measures resulting from the takeover of the procurement contract by Rheinmetall, which was originally concluded in 2022.
