The 10th Armored Division of the Bundeswehr to be available to NATO for the defense of the alliance. To this end, it is being restructured and given additional capabilities. For the first time, national and alliance defense is now being practiced with a newly subordinated Dutch brigade in the new “Division 2025” structure. 2,600 soldiers from 14 countries – including soldiers from the German Armed Forces – are taking part in the computer-supported command post exercise “Schneller Degen 23” at the Army Combat Simulation Center in Wildflecken (Rhön).

As part of the multinational exercise, the 10th Armored Division from Veitshöchheim in Lower Franconia has been training since November 13 and will continue to do so until November 30 to counter an attack on the fictitious region of “Franconia” as part of a NATO intervention force. The exercise scenario assumes that the fictitious alliance “Occasus” has invaded the transatlantic alliance area from the south. The 10th Armoured Division is therefore deployed to “Franconia” with Panzerbrigade 12 from Cham, Panzergrenadierbrigade 37 from Frankenberg/Saxony, the 13th Dutch Light Brigade from Oirschot and the Lithuanian mechanized infantry brigade “Iron Wolf” from Rukla. The mission: to liberate the enemy-occupied allied territory between the River Main and the A3 highway. https://militaeraktuell.at/fn-herstal-stellt-neuen-smart-protector-303t-vor/ Soldiers from the NATO countries Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Norway, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Belgium, Luxembourg, the USA and the partner countries Austria, Singapore and South Korea are taking part in the exercise. “Schneller Degen 23” is a computer-supported staff exercise of the 10th Armored Division with command posts at the military training area. The technical infrastructure is also set up there in order to be able to operate the digitally networked command posts and their command facilities under field conditions. As only the command staff will be practising in a computer simulation during this exercise, no troop movements with combat vehicles will be necessary. Terrain reconnaissance is planned in order to familiarize the planners with the terrain.
