The Czech aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody has signed a contract with the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense for the overhaul of two more L-39 Albatros aircraft. The order is based on a framework agreement that was concluded in November 2022 and has a term of four years.

According to the contract, Aero will overhaul two L-39ZA aircraft including AI-25TL engines. The original Russian avionics will also be replaced with Western avionics, and the navigation, communication, identification and recording equipment will be modernized. This will extend the expected service life of the two aircraft by 7.5 years or 1,500 flight hours. https://militaeraktuell.at/bundesheer-neues-stellungshaus-uebergeben/ The work is scheduled to begin next January and will be carried out at the Aero plant in Odolena Nova, north of Prague. The first two aircraft were handed over to Aero Vodochody in January 2023. “I am pleased to continue the successful cooperation with the Bulgarian Air Force. We are systematically working to strengthen and expand our relationships with the current users of our aircraft,” says Filip Kulstrunk, Vice President of Aero Vodochody. “Bulgaria is one of the customers with whom Aero has been working for a long time and the successful cooperation has now resulted in a second contract for the modernization of Bulgarian L-39ZA aircraft.”
