At the beginning of July, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and the company Airbus Defence & Space GmbH concluded a new system support contract for the A400M air transporter.
The additional capacity created is expected to enable further light, medium and heavy maintenance work to be carried out in Wunstorf from 2027 and in Manching from 2025. To this end, Airbus will establish a “Base Maintenance Service” (BMS) at the Wunstorf site. The necessary construction work will begin shortly after the contract is signed. The additional site in Wunstorf and the additional capacities in Manching will increase industrial maintenance capacities within Germany by around 85 percent compared to the status quo. The multi-year forward planning has already been adjusted accordingly. https://www.militaeraktuell.at/wir-steigern-die-human-performance/ The special feature of the maintenance intervals for the A400M is that they are not dependent on flight hours, but are scheduled according to the calendar. Light maintenance is scheduled every six months, medium maintenance every two years and heavy maintenance every six years. Light maintenance includes a superficial inspection, functional tests and minor maintenance work. The execution of time-critical measures, such as the replacement of operationally necessary or safety-relevant components, falls under medium maintenance. A major overhaul and the replacement of larger components or entire assemblies are carried out as so-called heavy maintenance.
