Videre sine videre – see without being seen: Not just a strong motto, but a major challenge. Phantomleaf and Mil-Tec entered into a cooperation and presented a modular, combinable camouflage system at the IWA 2024.
Phantomleaf is already known to government users in particular through products in the WASP II camouflage patterns: They were developed using neuropsychological and psychiatric expertise to work in low-growth areas, in the jungle, in the rock and concrete desert and in the snow. With the same know-how, Phantomleaf and Mil-Tec started a cooperation under the Civ-Tec label in order to provide a wider range of users with access to high-quality camouflage products. In a relatively short space of time, a large range was created for the specially developed camouflage patterns in WASP I, ranging from tactical trousers to camouflage netting.
All products are available in the WASP I camouflage patterns, which can also be combined very well depending on the environment: WASP I Z1B covers stony, urban and moderately snowy areas. WASP I Z2 is without exaggeration an all-rounder thanks to its balanced proportion of brown and green elements. For example, we have already been able to use it successfully in all seasons in our local woods and bushes. If the vegetation is dense and green, WASP I Z3A is a good choice. New additions to the Civ-Tec range, which were presented to us at the Mil-Tec stand at IWA 2024, are the tarp and the bivouac sack. Both will be available on the market very soon. We have a few key figures in advance.
The bivouac bag is made from a three-layer, breathable laminate with a water column of 5,000 millimetres. The cut is noticeably wide so that there is room for larger sleeping bags. Nevertheless, the pack size is only 40 x 8 centimetres and weighs around 1,300 grams. The tarp is available in the tried and tested 3×3 meter dimensions and can be set up in a number of different ways. With a water column of 5,000 millimetres, it will also prove its worth as a groundsheet, for example.
We have already gained some experience with Phantomleaf camouflage patterns in WASP I and WASP II. From observing animals and nature to using them in camp construction – we were surprised and delighted by how quickly they blended into their surroundings. In our experience, the camouflage patterns really come into their own against changing backgrounds and in transition zones. We will stay tuned and report back with product tests and further news from Phantomleaf.
