In a recent press release, MBDA announces a new order from Europe: the company has signed a contract to supply Common Anti-air Modular Missiles (CAMM) for the Swedish armed forces.
The contract signed between MBDA and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration FMV (Swedish: Försvarets materielverk) stipulates that MBDA will supply the CAMM guided missile for the Royal Swedish Navy’s five Visby-class corvettes. The Royal Swedish Navy will deploy it with MBDA’s Sea Ceptor air defense system. Sea Ceptor is a latest generation naval air defense system that provides robust 360° self and short-range protection against simultaneous attacks, including saturation attacks. With a broad target spectrum ranging from supersonic anti-ship missiles to attack helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, the system is designed to defend against advanced threats. Eric Beranger, CEO of MBDA: “CAMM will give Sweden and the Royal Swedish Navy a formidable air defense capability. Sweden, together with other allied Sea Ceptor users such as the British Royal Navy, will be able to make a strong contribution to NATO. We are proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Sweden and Swedish industry, including Saab.” https://militaeraktuell.at/oesterreich-staerkt-seine-luftverteidigung-nachhaltig/ MBDA has a long history of partnership with Sweden. One example of this is the MBDA-led Meteor missile program, in which Sweden plays a strategic role. The Swedish Saab Group is also cooperating with MBDA on the Taurus cruise missile program and the Akeron MP anti-tank missile. Sweden joins a growing list of armed forces worldwide that have selected the CAMM family as their latest generation naval and ground-based air defense system, including the recent major orders from Poland as well as from the UK, Italy, Canada, Brazil and other countries.
