The traditional information and performance show of the Austrian Armed Forces will take place for the 26th time this year on National Day: However, this time – as in the previous year – it will not be held on Heldenplatz as usual with the general public invited, but as a so-called “hybrid event” with live coverage by ORF and private TV stations as well as virtually at www.nationalfeiertag21.at.

“The ongoing Covid crisis presents those responsible with particular challenges again this year. I am delighted that the hybrid form of the event, the virtual Heldenplatz and the live coverage by ORF and private TV stations will allow us to ensure a particularly wide reach and a live feeling in Austria’s living rooms again this year despite the current restrictions. I would particularly like to thank ORF and the interested private TV stations for the planned extensive live coverage, which will ensure a particularly wide reach this year,” explained Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.

The Austrian Armed Forces are bringing the motto “We protect Austria. Be there!” in all activities and measures around the 2021 national holiday and invites Austrians to slip into one of the roles of the Austrian Armed Forces themselves on all communication channels and thus immerse themselves in the exciting, diverse (working) world of red-white-red soldiers.

In five “missions”, interested parties can virtually step into the role of either …
– a Eurofighter pilot intercepting an aircraft
– a fighter commando soldier on a special mission with Sandviper vehicles
– a helicopter pilot of an AB-212 in disaster control, specifically firefighting
– an NBC commander of the Mammut decontamination vehicle or
– a commander of a Pandur Evolution
and then share it on their own social media channels.

A real novelty is the invitation to take a seat directly in the cockpit of a Eurofighter.

A total of 500 prizes can be won in a large competition – including five main prizes offering experiences that cannot be bought, such as experience (half) days with one of the five units/operational units promoted for the national holiday, an exclusive weekend at “Airpower 2022” in Zeltweg with a special “behind the scenes” tour and a chance to fly along, participation in a joint disaster control exercise between the Austrian Armed Forces and civilian emergency organizations, as well as many other prizes ranging from crank radios to fleece and softshell jackets to high-quality rucksacks and much more.

All participants who activate an “action clip” will automatically be entered into the prize draw on October 28.
