Today, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner handed over three heavy-duty transport systems to the 4th Armored Infantry Brigade at the Hesse Barracks in Wels. On site, the commander, Brigadier Siegward Schier, took delivery of the new vehicles, which in future will be able to transport tanks and equipment weighing up to 70 tons each; the total cost amounts to 5.8 million euros. During the handover, unloading and loading was demonstrated using a recovery tank from a Leopard main battle tank.
“I am firmly convinced that these modern transport systems will increase and improve the performance and operational readiness of the armed forces. This means that the core competence – military national defense – will be strengthened,” said Defense Minister Tanner.
The all-terrain tractor unit and semi-trailer have been specially developed for military use. Further military equipment and versions, such as camouflage requirements with special paintwork, infrared lighting and preparation for information and communication technology upgrades, are included in the scope of delivery. The heavy-duty transport systems are supplied by MAN Truck & Bus Vertrieb Österreich AG. The heavy-duty transport system is also used by the German armed forces. The system has an overall length of around 24 meters and consists of a tractor unit and a low-loader semi-trailer. The production facilities are located in Vienna and Oppenau in Germany.
