For 120 militia soldiers from the Vienna 1 “Hoch- und Deutschmeister” Jäger Battalion, soldier life is once again on the daily schedule this week: The aim of the exercise is to consolidate the leadership skills of the company and platoon commanders in the “protection” type of operation and to train the battalion command in staff duty.
The soldiers of Jäger Battalion Vienna 1 are proficient in the classic tasks of a Jäger battalion, such as attack, defense, delaying action and the protection of important buildings and facilities. The “protection” type of operation is the most likely scenario for the battalion, which is why the focus of the soldiers’ training is on reconnoitring possible objects of protection in the federal capital of Vienna and on command and control procedures relating to the topic of “protection”.
Further training content includes medical training and refresher training in driving. The battalion commander is satisfied with how the exercise went: “Soldiers from Jäger Battalion Vienna 1 have demonstrated their operational capability and professionalism in several Covid missions in recent months. With this exercise and other training projects, we are all contributing to becoming even more operationally capable,” says Colonel Stefan Koroknai. The Jägerbataillon Wien 1 “Hoch- und Deutschmeister” is one of the two militia battalions in the federal capital of Vienna. The Jäger Battalion Vienna 1 was formed from the two Jäger Battalions 4 and 6 of the former Jäger Regiment Vienna. It thus continues the tradition of the Viennese House Regiment of the “Hoch- und Deutschmeister”. This tradition can be traced back to the founding of the first Deutschmeister regiment in 1696. Battalion commander Colonel Stefan Koroknai, born in 1969, studied technical mathematics and works in business and IT consulting. In addition to his civilian job, he also takes on responsibility as a soldier: as commander of the Vienna 1 “Hoch- und Deutschmeister” fighter battalion, around 800 soldiers are under his command during exercises and operations.
