The so-called war on terror is costing US taxpayers dearly: According to a study conducted by Brown University last September, the expenses for the current year – including the expected expenses for veterans – add up to 4.79 trillion dollars, almost 4.3 trillion euros. Even more recent studies take into account future expenditure, such as the repayment of loans taken out for military expenditure and the interest due on them – and thus come to an amount of 6 trillion dollars (5.3 trillion euros). For comparison: this sum corresponds to 13 times Austria’s gross domestic product.
