The “Mission Forward” proclaimed by Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner is also a “Mission Digitalization”. And so it was only logical that Tanner and her party colleague Claudia Plakolm, State Secretary for Digitalization, Youth and Civilian Service, announced that the military commands will also be the registration office for ID Austria in future.
In future, young men and women who are required to perform voluntary military service will be able to apply for their personal ID-Austria directly at the military commissions. “The pilot project will initially run in Klagenfurt over the summer. From the fall, it should then be available throughout Austria,” said the Minister during her visit to the newly erected position house in the Van Swieten barracks in Vienna Floridsdorf.
Tanner continues: “The Austrian Armed Forces as the registration office for ID-Austria is an important step towards a more modern and citizen-friendly future. Digital official channels are not only more time and cost efficient, but also make it easier for young people to access them. In this way, we are keeping our finger on the pulse of the times and ensuring that our administration is fit for the future. I am delighted that we are contributing to the digitalization of our country with this measure.”

“Once in a lifetime, we have all the boys in one place and that is at the post. On the one hand, the position is the largest health check-up in the country, which I think is incredibly important. From the fall, the position will become 2 in 1, because the military commands will then become the registration authority for ID Austria. This means that boys can easily set up their access to the Digital Office during their time at the post. This makes double use of the posting: A health check and once official channels and ID cards simply on the cell phone,” added State Secretary Claudia Plakolm. https://militaeraktuell.at/embraer-rheinmetall-c-390m-training-center/ Young men and women who want to register for ID Austria as part of the position examination only need the following documents: an official photo ID, a current passport photo and the “Digitales Amt” app. In future, it will also be possible to register at the Army Personnel Office, according to the Ministry of Defense. The Austrian Armed Forces are already taking ongoing measures to digitize official channels. The “bundesheeronline” service platform was launched last year. Those subject to compulsory military service, conscripts and militia soldiers can there applications completely digitally – among other things, housing cost allowances, family maintenance and bank details can be completed online. The digitalization of other processes is currently being planned.
During their visit to the position house in the Van Swieten barracks today, Minister Tanner and State Secretary Plakolm were shown the application process in real time by staff from the position commission and a volunteer recruit. The Minister also took the opportunity to visit other areas of the new building, which was opened just a few months ago, and obtained comprehensive information from the army staff present. https://militaeraktuell.at/militaer-aktuell-bei-den-austria-arms-action-days-2024/ At the end of the visit, Klaudia Tanner then spontaneously appeared in front of waiting conscripts to inform them about the many career opportunities in the Austrian Armed Forces and, despite her tight schedule, also held talks with conscripts who were interested in a career in the armed forces.
