As part of the information training exercise of the medical service of the German Armed Forces has Airbus Defence and Space also presented the first production model of the protected casualty transport container (GVTC).

An initial so-called verification sample was handed over to the Bundeswehr in mid-April last year and is currently being checked by the responsible departments to see whether the requirements originally set by the Bundeswehr for the system are being met. This test phase should be completed by September.

This procurement will provide the Bundeswehr with an additional capability for the protected transportation of patients by land. Up to eight previously stabilized patients – plus two seats for medical personnel – can be transported in the GVTC for outpatient or inpatient treatment. The ambulance equipment included enables extended emergency medical care and monitoring of patients. In addition, the “Intermediate Care” medical standard is ensured, according to which drugs can be administered as an infusion solution, vital functions can be monitored and ventilation of up to two people is possible. https://militaeraktuell.at/katzen-jaegerkompanie-bundesheer-hochfilzen/ The containers can be mounted on protected trucks with an interchangeable loading system that have already been introduced into the Bundeswehr. A new carrier vehicle is therefore not required. The GVTC consists of a six-metre ISO container with a weight of 13.5 tons. Due to the particularly high protection requirements, the container is equipped with appropriate systems for NBC protective ventilation and against threats from shelling or blasting. The Bundeswehr Procurement Office commissioned the production and delivery of twelve series containers and a verification sample almost three years ago, in summer 2021. The project has a financial volume of just under 40 million euros. The GVTCs are to be delivered by 2026.
