Helsing founds Helsing Estonia OÜ in Tallinn, Estonia: The new company is intended to intensify Helsing’s cooperation with industry in the Baltic region, particularly with regard to joint product developments for the defense of NATO-eastern flank. Helsing will invest 70 million euros over the next three years to equip the Baltic defense industry with modern AI technology.
Estonia is known for its progressive approach to technology, especially in the defense sector. Prime Minister Kaja Kallas recently announced the development of an industrial park and a fund to support the defense industry. At a joint panel appearance with Helsing’s co-founder and co-CEO Gundbert Scherf in Tallinn in May, Prime Minister Kallas said: “The changing security situation in Europe clearly shows that we need to invest more in defense. In addition, the current bottlenecks in the defense sector have become clear. We see how market-available commercial technologies for multi-million dollar military equipment can become a threat. Inexpensive drones with warheads, for example, can deplete the supplies of even the most advanced defense systems.” https://militaeraktuell.at/konflikte_welt-006-was-war-was-ist-was-wird/ Helsing aims to strengthen the defense infrastructure of the Baltic states with modern AI and software solutions through cooperation with local partners. The company’s significant investments include, for example, new operating and production facilities. These investments are intended not only to improve local defense capabilities, but also to promote the region’s economy. Gundbert Scherf said on the occasion of the founding of Helsing Estonia: “The Baltic states are of central importance to NATO. It is therefore the responsibility of all Europeans to strengthen their defense. We have founded a company in Estonia so that our advanced AI can be deployed on the eastern flank as quickly as possible. Helsing OÜ will learn lessons from the Ukraine war (-> current news from the Ukraine war) and conduct self-funded AI research to meet the needs of the Baltic Defense Forces.”
