The US Marine Corps (USMC) is expanding its drone portfolio with the Bolt-M from Anduril as part of the Organic Precision Fires-Light (OPF-L) program. As the USMC explains, OPF-L is a new system designed to provide platoons and companies with a “portable, organic and easy-to-operate precision strike capability to engage targets beyond visual range”.
The contract was awarded to Anduril after 13 months of rigorous testing. During this phase, the company delivered an initial tranche of more than 250 Bolt-M systems and validated their performance against a wide range of safety, environmental and performance requirements. In hundreds of flights, Bolt-M demonstrated its “category-leading range, endurance and payload capacity against multiple target profiles,” according to the USMC. Following the completion of these successful trials, the USMC selected Bolt-M as the initial fielding system.
In the next phase of the program, Anduril will deliver more than 600 Bolt-M systems – including ground stations and ancillary equipment – to the USMC between February 2026 and April 2027. From summer 2026, Bolt-M will be introduced into the first operational naval units, where end users will train and deploy the organic, loitering precision strike options in tactical formations.
In parallel, Anduril has invested in scaling its production capacity and processes to meet the requirements of the OPF-L program and other projects. The production process for Bolt has been optimized in the areas of design, supply chain, quality, manufacturing technology and operations, as has the production facility itself. Capacity now exceeds 100 all-up rounds per month. This year, Anduril plans to increase production of all Bolt variants to a sustainable rate of over 175 systems per month. The contract is worth around 20.5 million euros.
Debatte mit Sprengkraft: Steigt Frankreich aus der NATO aus?
In April 2024, the USMC had already commissioned AeroVironment to supply the Switchblade 300 Block 20 Loitering Munition as part of OPF-L. This was followed in December 2025 by a further order to Teledyne for more than 600 Rogue 1 Loitering Munitions.
