The Danish special forces “Jægerkorpset” and “Frømandskorpset” are to be significantly expanded and strengthened. By the end of 2026, a third operational squadron will be established for both units.

The measure was recommended by the Chief of Staff and is financed by the state acceleration fund.

“Denmark’s special forces are among the best in the world. They are a strategic instrument of the government that can be used to accomplish key security tasks at home and abroad. With this initiative, we are strengthening their capabilities both qualitatively and quantitatively – so that they can contribute even more effectively to the Danish military’s mission in the future,” says Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.

The new squadrons are not only intended to increase operational strength, but also to draw on experience from current conflicts – particularly the war in Ukraine (-> Latest news from the war in Ukraine) – and new technologies into innovative operational solutions.

“The third echelon of ‘Jægerkorpset’ and ‘Frømandskorpset’ will significantly increase the combat power of the special forces and play a key role in translating current operational knowledge and technological developments into practical capabilities. The aim is flexible and targeted deployment – both at home and abroad,” explains Colonel Nicolai Stahlfest Møller, acting commander of the Special Operations Command.

Funds are also being made available to expand the contribution of special forces to support the police. Part of the project is the establishment of a standby unit consisting of special forces operators who can provide support for national tasks and anti-terror operations in Denmark.
