Since last week and for the next four weeks, three barracks in Upper Austria – the Ried, Wels and Hörsching barracks – are once again offering childcare. For twelve years now, the Austrian Armed Forces has been offering children of service personnel the opportunity to take part in temporary childcare during the summer vacations. The children are looked after by a professional organization in 15 different barracks throughout Austria.
The necessary infrastructure is generally provided by the Austrian Armed Forces. This year, more than more than 700 applications for childcare have been received. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner said: “By enabling our employees’ children to make use of temporary childcare, we are fulfilling the employer’s duty of care towards employees. In order to make it possible for many employees to combine work and family life, we are constantly working to further optimize this offer. The ever-increasing number of applications confirms that we are on the right track.” https://militaeraktuell.at/mbda-stellt-neuen-effektor-fuer-sky-warden-vor/ “However, it is also important that the children have a carefree time during their summer vacation with lots of exciting adventures, meet new friends and can really have fun under professional supervision,” continued the Minister. The military commander of Upper Austria, Brigadier Dieter Muhr, is pleased that this care is possible and that the children are offered a nice, relaxing and exciting time in their parents’ working environment, making it easier to combine family and career. Children from three to twelve years of age are looked after for a maximum of four weeks in the federal states of Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Vienna. The highest participation is in Styria, where childcare is offered in the barracks in Zeltweg, St. Michael, Graz, Feldbach and Straß. The care period extends from July 1 to August 30.
