Around 90 soldiers from the Vorarlberg Military Command, who supported the state government as part of the Covid-19 measures, have now been awarded the Austrian Armed Forces Service Medal.

Soldiers from the engineer platoon, the military band and the support platoon of Jäger Battalion 23 were deployed under the command of the staff company of the Vorarlberg military command for contact tracing, area testing and transportation tasks. The soldiers were also on standby as an avalanche platoon during the heavy snowfall.

Military commander Brigadier Gunther Hessel praises the soldiers for their commitment.

For the pioneers, this award also marks the end of their demanding and varied basic military service. In addition to the various assistance missions for the health authorities, they were also trained for security police assistance missions. They also learned their pioneering tasks, such as blasting. The recipients received praise and thanks from Provincial Councillor Christian Gantner: “I would like to thank you for deciding to do your military service. The Austrian Armed Forces are an important pillar of Vorarlberg’s security architecture. The Covid-19 crisis has shown this impressively. On behalf of the state, I would like to thank you very much and congratulate you on your award.” The military commander of Vorarlberg, Brigadier Gunther Hessel, also praised the soldiers: “You were a particularly positive pioneer platoon, always disciplined and always motivated! Thanks to this exemplary attitude during your basic military service, both in action and in training, you have highly earned this award. Keep this positive attitude for the rest of your life!”
