Vincorion has received from KNDS Germany for the delivery of more than 700 EPG Husky V W 600 on-board power generators for the Boxer wheeled armored vehicle. Further orders are expected for future projects, so that a total quantity of more than 1,000 generators is likely.
The EPG Husky V W 600 is a water-cooled on-board power supply generator for all application scenarios: In the Boxer, it can take over the power supply for the vehicle and the various mission modules. The alternator delivers up to 600 amps and is therefore also equipped for future requirements. A new digital voltage regulator has been integrated, which allows the alternator to be adapted for the various applications.
“The delivery of the generator for the Boxer is a very important order for us,” says Stefan Stenzel, Managing Director of Vincorion. “It shows us that the demand for the Boxer remains high. But it also shows that the manufacturers of modern military technology rely on Vincorion components and equip their vehicles with them.” The order volume currently stands at around twelve million euros.
Output increases from 370 to 600 amps
“The new generator fits exactly into the installation space of the vehicles,” explains Stenzel. It would therefore be possible to equip existing vehicles with it in addition to all new vehicles if the demand for power increases. The predecessor model, the SF 217, had 370 amps, which has been increased to 600 amps in the new version. “Modern military technology requires more energy, for example for communication or air conditioning. We are specialists in military power supply. Whether it’s the power supply for sophisticated electronics or radar systems, our generator reliably supplies the necessary energy.”
Intensive vehicle tests with the Boxer with the new generator system have already been carried out in the UK and Australia. The new model has already proven its reliability. Even during test drives of more than 1,000 kilometers with the vehicle in Switzerland, the performance remained stable at all times, as the engineers at Vincorion report. The water cooling of the generator means that it can operate independently of the ambient conditions.
Full power at all times
Temperatures in the cooling circuit can rise sharply without impairing performance. The generator is also waterproof in accordance with protection class IP 67. “The generator hardly suffers any losses due to changing ambient temperatures. This means that it always delivers full power,” emphasizes Stenzel.
The EPG Husky V W 600 is manufactured at the Vincorion plant in Essen. Generation for the Leopard 2 tank and the Puma infantry fighting vehicle are also produced there. Some parts, such as mechanical components, come from the company’s headquarters in Wedel.
