With a Christmas greeting in the form of Viennese delicacies, the Governor and Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, thanked the soldiers of the Guards who were deployed abroad.
At a press event in the arcaded courtyard of Vienna City Hall, the Governor presented the gift packages to Vienna’s military commander Brigadier Kurt Wagner on his behalf. The “Christmas packages” will be transported to the place of deployment in the next few days. The Christmas surprise will arrive on time and will certainly bring joy to the deployed soldiers. One of the challenges of a deployment outside Austria is the months of separation from their families, which is particularly noticeable during the festive Christmas period, so the greetings from home are a welcome gesture.

“The soldiers are not only doing a great job in the federal capital, but are also ensuring peace and coexistence in our neighboring European countries. I am proud of the commitment of our Viennese soldiers. It is therefore important to me to thank the many Viennese soldiers for their deployment abroad in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They deserve some attention, especially at Christmas,” said Governor Michael Ludwig. Military Commander Brigadier General Kurt Wagner expressed his special thanks to the Governor for the fact that the City of Vienna is thinking of its comrades deployed abroad with this Christmas surprise. The Christmas bag contains typical delicacies such as organic honey from the beehives on the roof of Vienna City Hall, a Golden Viennese Chocolate Heart from the traditional Viennese company Leschanz, organic products from the Cobenzl winery and “29 Short Stories from Vienna” – a book from the publication series “A City. One book”. The 5th Guards Company is currently deployed abroad in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This is the first time that a Viennese company as a whole has been deployed abroad. The areas of responsibility are extensive – from patrols and explosive ordnance disposal to joint training and exercises with the Bosnian army. More than half of the company’s soldiers come from Vienna.
