The US Navy has received from Boeing the first Orca Extra Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV). This is a new class of autonomous submarines that can carry out critical missions over long periods of time.
Thanks to the partnership with the Navy, “Orca” – as the submarine is called there – has undergone several phases of testing at sea, including maneuvers above and below the water surface to demonstrate the vehicle’s capabilities. Boeing began developing a precursor to the XLUUV back in 2012. https://militaeraktuell.at/baschaffungs-offensive-beim-bundesheer/ “This is the culmination of more than a decade of pioneering work to develop a fully autonomous, long-range, high payload capacity underwater vehicle that can operate completely independent of a carrier,” said Ann Stevens, vice president of Boeing Maritime and Intelligence Systems.
