Defense Minister Mario Kunasek appoints Brigadier Wolfgang Wagner as the new commander of the Air Support Command. An independent evaluation commission judged Wagner and three other applicants to be highly suitable.

Wagner has been in charge of the command since October 2018. He now officially succeeds Brigadier Andreas Putz in his new role at the Hörsching site in Upper Austria. Wolfgang Wagner, a native of Linz, is married and has two children. “I congratulate Wolfgang Wagner on his new role. Thanks to his many years of experience in the field of air support, he has the right qualifications as a commander. I wish Brigadier Wolfgang Wagner every success as a soldier,” said Minister Kunasek.

Defense Minister Mario Kunasek appointed Wolfgang Wagner as the new commander of air support and promoted him to brigadier general.

The Upper Austrian enlisted in the Austrian Armed Forces in 1986 and attended the Theresian Military Academy from 1994 to 1997. After retiring from the 18th General Staff Course in 2010, Wagner worked as Chief of Staff of the Air Support Command, but also as a military advisor for the Air Force in the Federal Ministry of Defense. Until his appointment to his new role, Brigadier Wagner was in charge of the Air Support Command. From Vogler Air Base in Hörsching, the Air Support Command coordinates all transport and air reconnaissance flights of the Austrian Armed Forces. The Hercules aircraft of the air transport squadron and the two squadrons of Agusta Bell 212 transport helicopters are managed directly by the command. The Alouette IIIs of the multi-purpose helicopter squadron, which operate from Aigen im Ennstal and the helicopter base in Vomp (Tyrol), are also managed directly.
