A total of 570 young men and women joined the Austrian Armed Forces in Upper Austria today. They are starting their service with Tank Battalion 14 in Wels, with the Guard in Vienna, in Salzburg and with the Staff Company of the Upper Austrian Military Command in Hörsching.
Military Commander Brigadier Dieter Muhr: “The new year begins in a new environment for the young men and women. I wish all new recruits an enjoyable, interesting and, above all, challenging time in the Armed Forces. I hope that many of them will decide to pursue a career in the armed forces.”
Recruit Erik S. (pictured above) joined the staff company in Hörsching today. He passed his A-levels in mechatronics at a technical college last year and then wants to continue his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Hagenberg. He has no concrete idea what the coming weeks will be like, but he hopes it will be like his friends have told him. After a Covid-19 test and taking over the uniform, training will begin in strict compliance with the coronavirus regulations.
