Already At the beginning of January, the first two British Boxer prototypes from Rheinmetall and BAE Systems arrived in the UK ahead of joint army and industry trials. Rheinmetall has now provided an update on the British Boxer program. Vehicle trials Official verification and validation trials for the Mechanized Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme are currently underway at the British Army’s Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedford, UK. In these trials, the design is to be qualified against the technical requirements of the MIV in order to demonstrate the performance of the Boxer vehicle. The tests will be conducted with two Rheinmetall prototypes in the Command variant. They focus on mission systems such as C4I, electronic countermeasures, man-machine interface, electromagnetic compatibility and air conditioning. The tests are supported by ARTEC and KNDS. Start of vehicle production The first series vehicles of the MIV are to be delivered this year. These will be Command variants, which will be built at the Rheinmetall plant in Kassel. They are currently in the final stages of construction before being shipped to the UK. Production of British Boxer vehicles has also started in the UK. https://militaeraktuell.at/oesterreich-bei-nato-treffen-in-bruessel-mit-dabei/ Boxer – versatile and battle-tested In 2019, the British Ministry of Defense ordered 523 Boxer vehicles and increased the order by a further 100 in April 2022. The Boxer is a highly protected 8×8 wheeled armored vehicle. Its modular architecture allows for a large number of different variants, of which the British Army is procuring a total of four: infantry carrier, command vehicle, field ambulance and special transporter. Investment in the site The MIV production facilities were commissioned and installed as part of the RBSL (Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land Limited) industrialization programme, with £40 million (just under €47 million) invested in the Telford site to transform it into a modern production facility. The program focuses on supporting and improving the UK supply chain and developing skills and expertise in the country.
